In the era of so-called "fake news," deliberate disinformation campaigns, and hoaxes spreading faster than actual news, speakers at Florida SouthWestern State College are hosting a Critical Thinking Lecture Series throughout October about applying reason and logic to thinking about our world.

Whitney Rhyne, FSW's director of Strategic Initiatives, and Dr. Joseph van Gaalen, director of Assessment and Effectiveness for FSW, join Gulf Coast Live to discuss how they apply critical thinking in their every-day life and work, and what topics the lecture series will cover through the lens of critical thinking.

Dr. van Gaalen's lecture, scheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 4, from 12:30-1:30 p.m., is called “Science in the News: What One Scientist Said, and What the Journalist Wrote, and Other Quandaries.”

Other topics in the lecture series apply critical thinking to the business world of the digital age, food and medicine, foreign affairs, and ancient civilizations.
