It’s been weeks since Debbie Wasserman Schultz resigned as chair of the Democratic National Committee (DNC), but the fallout from the WikiLeaks email release continues to threaten her congressional campaign.
The candidate challenging Wasserman- Schultz for her congressional seat filed a Federal Election Commission (FEC) complaint on Monday for what he says is a misuse of DNC resources.
Tim Canova, who is a Democratic primary candidate in South Florida’s 23rd Congressional District, says the Wasserman Schultz campaign violated FEC regulations.
“When somebody is abusing a position of power as Wasserman Schultz has been, the Federal Election Commission should investigate," Canova said.
Canova claims the leaked emails show Wasserman Schultz illegally used DNC resources for her reelection campaign. He says his opponent used these resources to monitor his campaign and media coverage.
The Wasserman Schultz campaign declined to comment on the complaint.
The penalties for a violation of FEC regulations range from fines to criminal charges.
