Crist To Announce Democratic Run For Governor Today

Former Republican Gov. Charlie Crist is expected to announce he's running for governor again - this time as a Democrat. Crist is holding a press event in St. Petersburg's Albert Whitted Park this morning.

Tampa Bay Times Tallahassee bureau chief Steve Bousquet says expect to see Crist flash his charisma to kick off the campaign.

"Well, first of all it’s the worst-kept secret in Florida politics in a very long time", Bousquet said. "But, he will, I think, have a diverse group of people behind him and he will talk about the need to take this state back, away from what he will characterize as the extreme conservative politics of Rick Scott and the Republican Party. And it’s going to be a feel-good moment in the sense that Charlie Crist is a consummate retail politician and he will play to those strengths."

Former state Sen. Nan Rich is the only other Democrat who is officially challenging Republican Gov. Rick Scott.
