The extreme winter weather gripping the northern states could be incentive for some snowbirds to stay in the south for good. But new Census data shows that Florida’s reputation as the end of the road for retirees is changing.
Floridians have come to expect snowbirds to flock together and head south for the winter. But more and more are going back up North after their stint in the sunshine state. According to new Census data released last week, people over 65 make up only ten percent of Florida’s new residents. Almost half are under 25. Many of the newcomers are migrants from Latin America.
Florida is expected to surpass New York to become the third-most-populated state in the US sometime this year.
