Robbie Gaffney

Robbie Gaffney is a recent graduate from Florida State University with degrees in Digital Media Production and Creative Writing. Before working at WFSU, they recorded FSU’s basketball and baseball games for Seminole Productions as well as interned for the PBS Station in Largo, Florida. Robbie loves playing video games such as Shadow of the Colossus, Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask, and Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles. Their other hobbies include sleeping and watching anime.  

  • Florida Attorney General Ashley Moody is warning Floridians of scammers trying to impersonate health officials. Moody says the calls are going out from people pretending to be contact tracers to get personal details from victims. She's advising people to verify that contact tracing calls are coming from county health departments.
  • State Health officials, Thursday, reported a new record high number of COVID-19 cases documented in a single day since the pandemic began.The Florida Department of Health reported 3,207 new cases of the virus, June 18, bringing the statewide total to 85,926 cases.State health officials also reported 43 new coronavirus-related deaths, Thursday, increasing the statewide death toll to 3,061 fatalities including 1,612 deaths in long-term care facilities.
  • State health officials reported 617 new cases of COVID-19, Tuesday, bringing the statewide total number of confirmed cases to 57,447.The Florida Department of Health also reported 70 new coronavirus-related deaths, June 2, for a statewide death toll of 2,530 fatalities. Tuesday’s reported deaths mark the highest single-day increase in fatalities since May 5.In total, Florida has had 10,412 patient hospitalizations due to the virus. Of the 1,050,671 tests that have been performed in the state so far, the rate of positive tests remains at 5.5 percent.
  • State health officials reported 651 new confirmed cases of COVID-19, Thursday, bringing the statewide total number of cases to 53,285. The Florida Department of Health also reported 45 new coronavirus-related deaths, yesterday, increasing the state's death toll to 2,364 fatalities, including 1,163 deaths in long-term care facilities.Of the 953,321 tests that have been performed in Florida so far, 5.6% have been positive for the virus.
  • State health officials reported 379 new cases of COVID-19 in Florida, Wednesday, for a total of 52,634 confirmed cases.As the nationwide death toll from COVID-19 hit the 100,000 mark, yesterday, the Florida Department of Health also reported 60 new coronavirus-related deaths, bringing Florida's death toll to 2,319 confirmed fatalities, including 1,089 deaths in long-term care facilities.The total number of virus-related hospitalizations in the state now stands at 9,639 patients.Of the 935,271 tests that have been performed in Florida so far, 5.6% have been positive for the virus.
  • State health officials reported 1,204 new confirmed cases of COVID-19, Thursday, bringing the statewide total number of cases to 48,675. The Florida Department of Health also reported 48 more coronavirus-related deaths, Thursday, for a total of 2,144 fatalities.In a tweet, Gov. Ron DeSantis attributes the large single-day increase in the number of infected people to "another big dump of test results."On Wednesday, state health officials reported receiving more than 77,900 test results, marking the largest single-day number of test results they've received since the pandemic began.
  • State health officials reported 502 new confirmed cases of the coronavirus, Tuesday, bringing the statewide total to 46,944 cases.The Florida Department of Health also reported 55 deaths, Tuesday, for a total of 2,052 fatalities. 938 of Florida's coronavirus-related deaths have been associated with long-term care facilities, accounting for 45.7% of all virus-related deaths in the state.Nearly 8,500 people in total have been hospitalized for COVID-19 treatment in Florida.
  • The man overseeing the state's unemployment system is advising Floridians not to hang up the phone when calling to inquire about their benefits. Jonathan Satter acknowledges the wait is long—up to an hour and 39 minutes on Monday.
  • Gov. Ron DeSantis says a rise in coronavirus cases, doesn’t necessarily mean the virus is spreading more. DeSantis spoke about the issue Monday after test results released Saturday showed more than 1,000 new cases of the virus.
  • State Health officials reported 2,378 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 over the weekend for a statewide total of 45,588 cases.The Florida Department of Health reported 98 new coronavirus-related deaths since Friday morning, bringing Florida’s death toll to 1,973 fatalities.The total number of hospitalizations related to virus now stands at 8,230 patients, including all people who have been hospitalized and not just those who are currently receiving treatment.
