Lee County Commissioners are expected vote up or down at Tuesday’s commission meeting on a $4 million incentive package that could bring a Fortune 500 company to the area. The identity of the company has not been disclosed to the commissioners, though.
Jim Moore, the Director of the Lee County Economic Development Office, said that is standard procedure in negotiations of this kind.
Try and stand in the company’s shoes,” Moore said. “You’re going to move your business from New York to Chicago. You need to have everything in place before your employees know about it or it would create chaos. We are all covered by confidentiality agreements that were put in place for just this purpose.”
In 2011, commissioners approved a $5 million dollar incentive package to bring VR Labs to Lee County. So far, that investment has yielded scant results.
Moore says the company now under consideration, however, has been thoroughly vetted and its financial house is in order. The relocation of the company comes with the promise of bringing 700 high paying jobs with it. Pending commissioners’ approval, a public announcement could come in early May.
