An eclectic new addition adorns the grounds of ECHO, created due to the effects of Hurricane Ian. The 6-foot-tall sculpture depicting planet earth was made from scrap metal gathered after the storm slammed Southwest Florida in September 2022.

The play Silent Sky describes how Henrietta Swan Leavitt's passion for discovery enabled astronomy to map the sky and, in the process, determine our exact place in the universe. Silent Sky is on stage at the FGCU TheatreLab through February 25, 2024.

A second rent-free house, the Malthouse-Pilot Scholarship House, has been formally dedicated in FGCU’s North Lake Village.The house stands alongside the Gresham-Kite Pilot Scholarship House, which opened in 2003. Both have the capacity to house 17 students each, and were built by the Southern Scholarship Foundation, an organization devoted to providing rent-free housing for Florida students.

FGCU’s Board of Trustees has two newly elected officers for the 2024-26 term. Effective February 1, Michael Wynn is the new board chair and Richard P. Eide, Jr. is the vice chair.

Florida Gulf Coast University is set to release its next Five Year Strategic Plan that will outline the institution's updated goals and priorities, and identify ways to achieve them. It includes updated Mission and Vision statements, and five main goals, which are to “Innovate in Academic Excellence,” “Enhance Student Success and Well-being,” “Elevate Partnerships for Regional Impact,” “Strengthen Organizational Culture and Commitment to Employees” and “Champion Sustainable Practices and Resiliency.” We talk with the three members of the Strategic Plan Steering Committee to get a sense of what the new plan contains, how it differs from the previous plan, and how the process of finalizing it worked.
