A front continues to meander between North and Central Florida, expect rounds of storms, some could be severe and the flood threat continues.

A powerful squall line with embedded tornadoes tore through the Panhandle early this morning.This line of storms moved through the western Panhandle overnight and into the capitol region before sunrise this morning. Several tornado warnings were triggered by strong areas of radar-indicated rotation detected by the Tallahassee radar, before the storm temporarily disabled the NWS Tallahassee radar.

Much of Florida will experience July-like temperatures, with high heat indices to close the week. Many hot records will be broken or tied.

The official start of the 2024 Atlantic Hurricane Season isn’t until June first, but the environment is already signaling that a system could form well before then. Wednesday afternoon, the National Hurricane Center identified an area of low pressure that they are monitoring in the tropics.

Colorado State University hurricane researchers are predicting an extremely active Atlantic hurricane season in their initial 2024 forecast. The team cites record warm tropical and eastern subtropical Atlantic sea surface temperatures as a primary factor for their prediction of 11 hurricanes this year.

A developing storm should produce multiple rounds of heavy rain over parts of Florida on Friday and Saturday. Localized flooding is expected over parts of South Florida. Severe thunderstorms are possible along the immediate Gulf Coast of Florida.

The countdown to hurricane season has begun, and Florida emergency management offices are sharing their safety tips to empower residents to act ahead of potential storms.

AccuWeather hurricane experts warn that all the ingredients are coming together for explosive tropical development in the Atlantic this year — especially in the second half of season.But, there is still a lot of time before the start of the season and weather is a notoriously fickle thing at times.

A cold front is set to impact the state over the weekend with a notable drop in temperatures, and soaking rains. Clouds will be in place starting Friday evening, with some showers possible. However during the day Saturday, a cold front will sweep through the peninsula. Both days of the weekend will be generally cloudy, cool and rainy. But the coolest temperatures are expected Sunday afternoon.

With inland temperatures projected to drop to 40 degrees or lower for an extended period in Southwest Florida, Lee and Charlotte counties made plans Tuesday afternoon to provide cold weather outreach and shelter access.
