Today marks an infamous day in Florida's hurricane history. A look back at Hurricane Charley, a small but mighty hurricane left some parts of the state permanently changed.

The next name system is Ernesto and luckily for the continental U.S. it is turning northward and staying well away from Florida.

With Hurricane Debby having little effect on oil production in the Gulf of Mexico, average gasoline prices dropped 14 cents a gallon in Florida during the past week. The AAA auto club AAA said Florida motorists Monday paid an average of $3.32 for a gallon of regular unleaded, down from $3.46 a week earlier.

Hurricane weary residents work to clean up and rebuild as Debby leaves a trial of floods and storm damage from Florida, and up the Atlantic seaboard.

As Floridians, especially across North Florida, clean up after Hurricane Debby dragged through the area, heat returns and there are still chances for a hyperactive hurricane season. Colorado State University released an update to their forecast and it calls for up to 23 named storms.

Last year, sea turtle nests were lost when Hurricane Idalia whipped up Florida's Gest Coast before making landfall in the Big Bend during the last week of August as a Category 4 storm. This year, Hurricane Debby disturbed sea turtle nests again along that coast before making landfall in the Big Bend during the first week of August as a Category 1.

For the fourth year, Saildrone and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) are sailing a fleet of uncrewed surface vehicles (USVs) into hurricanes to better understand how these dangerous storms form, track, and intensify.The mission officially started this week with 12 vehicles stationed in six operational areas identified by NOAA as having a high probability of intercepting a storm.

Debby will continue to bring storms with flash flooding possible Tuesday

Lee County Parks & Recreation is assessing sites for damage and impacts from Tropical Storm Debby, which made landfall as Hurricane Debby in Florida’s Big Bend earlier Monday. Bunche Beach Preserve, Lynn Hall Memorial Park and access No. 4 of Bonita Beach Park are currently closed. Some parking areas along Bonita Beach has also been impacted.

Coast Guard aircrews rescued two adrift boaters, Sunday, after their 34-foot sailing vessel lost its sail 73 miles off Boca Grande.No injuries were reported.
