Automated stations replace metered parking in downtown Fort Myers; free Zip Zones removed

The method of parking is changing in downtown Fort Myers with 32 automated stations replacing meters and previously free Zip Zones eliminated.

LeeTran’s free downtown trolleys resume November 16

LeeTran’s free, seasonal downtown trolleys will resume service on November 16, 2023.

The industry group Florida Realtors last week released a report that said the statewide median sales price for single-family existing homes in June was $420,000. Tops was, above, clockwise, the Naples-Marco Island area ($825,000), then Miami-Fort Launderdale-West Palm Beach ($632,500), North Port-Sarasota-Bradenton was third ($524,450) and Cape Cioral-Fort Meyrs placed sixth ($430,000).

Fort Myers Housing Authority receives $1.6M HUD grant to mitigate hurricane damage

A $1,672,000 U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development Housing-Related Hazards Fund Program grant was recently awarded to the Housing Authority of Fort Myers to mitigate interior hurricane damage in the city's public housing units.The Fort Myers authority was one of only two such housing agencies in Florida to receive this grant.

In a rarity, a green sea turtle appears to have survived for a year in a freshwater pond near Tarpon Cove. If not placed there recently, the turtle as a hatchling was possibly swept inland by Hurricane Ian in September 2022 and found a way to survive in the freshwater.
